The UEFA
Champions League Round of 16 draw is made on Monday (6 a.m. ET), and the
failure of some big teams to win their groups could set up some monster
 matchups. Arsenal,
Manchester City, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain
are among the unseeded teams, so we're sure to see a couple of truly
spectacular ties made.
The biggest name to miss out on
the knockout stages is Liverpool, who failed to get by FC Basel in
group play. Serie A runners-up AS Roma are also out, as are Russian
champions Zenit St. Petersburg. All of the big favorites to win the
title progressed, though, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and
Chelsea facing minimal opposition to finish in the top two of their
groups.
As usual, teams from the same
country cannot be drawn together in the round of 16, nor can teams from
the same group be drawn together. For example, Chelsea cannot be drawn
against Arsenal, Manchester City or Schalke 04. Starting in the
quarterfinals, draw restrictions are removed and any team can be drawn
against any other team.
Round of 16 ties will begin on February 17 and conclude on March 18.
